Status of the Programme
The Farabi Exchange Programme is currently inactive and will remain closed until further notice by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
Who Was Farabi?
Farabi was born in 871 in the city of Farab in Turkistan. Throughout his life, he traveled to and studied in major intellectual centers such as Bukhara, Baghdad, Damascus, Cairo, Harran, and Aleppo.
He produced influential works in philosophy, mathematics, logic, political science, and music. In the Islamic world, he is known as the “Second Teacher” (Muallim-i Sani)- a title earned due to his significant contributions to philosophy, second only to Aristotle, the “First Teacher” (Muallim-i Evvel).
In Western literature, he is referred to as Alpharabius. Farabi died in Damascus in 950.
About the Farabi Exchange Programme
The Farabi Exchange Programme is designed to facilitate student and academic staff mobility among higher education institutions—universities and institutes of advanced technology—that offer associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral level education.
The programme enables participants to study or teach at another higher education institution in Türkiye for one or two semesters. All procedures regarding the implementation of the programme are defined in the Regulation and the Procedures and Principles issued by YÖK.
